Thanksfor your answer, Hélène.
I am afraid that when we talk or write we have to usewords. The point is: shall
we use "Open Space" without any furtherand correct clarification or shall we
always clarify what is our understandingof what "Open Space" really is, in the
context of OST?
But I agree with you that it would be much easier - and itis not impossible -
to use also images. For instance it would not be difficultto create a channel
on YouTube for Open Space (that is, Open Space Technology)with many small films
of successful OST events, which could also be displayed -or linked from - the
pages of OS Institutes and practitioners around the world.I would suggest that
the OSI-US take the lead on creating that channel andselecting the videos. I
can provide the ones that were at the NING, I think
In a Pt OSonOS(Pt from Portugal), two years ago, in one of the breakout
sessions, there was aconsultant lady, that was previously the HR Director of
the Portuguesedelegation of a larger pharmaceutical multinational. She told
usthat she was amazed because she understood for the first time whatOpen Space
really was, even if she had already attended some sessionsorganized for them by
consulting companies as being "Open Space" butwhere the facilitators (?) were
always intervening during all the session. She finally understood, from her
experience at the Pt OSonOS, that what those"facilitators" were doing was
indeed closing the space for selforganization.
Havea nice Sunday

Hi Artur and all of us!
thank you Artur for your message!
I've already got such observations from a O.S.facilitator in France who was
upset about an official organisation (conseil régional) who wanted her to
organize a "so-called" O.S. which in fact would be no O.S. (= not all of the
problem as you told below, but with one big distorsion: the contents of the
different workshops of the O.S. were decided before! and of course without the
participants)
aren't you aware about living in a world where only words exist "really"?
so don't use words anymore!
best wishes to everybody

The question, Paul, is that talking to this or that DG at EU about the "need
to open the space" is not enough. There is a strong need to explain what Open
Space means!
In this case, they have used the name (Open Space), but nor the procedures of
an OST event, neither the spirit of Open Space.

Artur

A blessing Artur! I have engaged with one of EU DGs the DG Connect and
talked extensively about the need for opening space in their events. Who knows
they are talking to each other? Best Paul

Good morning Open Spacers: I have received from a friend this mail that
announces a “Higher Education Open Space” organized by the European Union. He
sent me this happy because EU was adopting Open Space and he expected me to be
happy with that. Here is the mail I have received: « Campus Europae Higher
Education Open Space
The Higher Education Open Space (HEOS) 2015, following up the Council's
communiqué after Yerevan will provide universities, students and stakeholder
representatives an open, innovative and creative space for discussion on joint
approaches to face these challenges. It also aims to contribute in a concrete
way to the modernisation of higher education and to build alliances to
reinforce the competitiveness and governance of European universities. It will
allow for policy discussions and practical working sessions through two main
events: a conference on the 3rd of November on how to reach 20% of student
mobility by 2020 while maintaining the quality of mobility flows; an Open Space
on the 4th-5th of November addressing topical issues of universities, students
and stakeholders in the field of the modernisation agenda. Registeruntil 30
September 2015! » (end of the mail) If one looks to the Program
(http://uni-foundation.eu/higher-education-open-space/conference) one finds the
Agenda below (after my signature). There are a lot of speakers all the time!!!
But even the sessions that could be "open" are like this: 1) The session on
”Disruptive innovation in the field of student mobility” has 4 experts speaking
about it (no students, as far as I can see) 2) The session of “Group
Discussion” (14:00 - 15:00) has 4 predefined subjects: · Funding
strategies to increase exchanges · Length matters: 1 semester vs. 1
year abroad · Ad-hoc partnerships and international consortia ·
The increasing importance of QA and recognition of credits
3) The Round-table (15:30 - 17:00) has 2 speakers (Profs). So my questions
are: - Is this Open Space? - What is the concept of "Open Space" of
the European Union? - Did they get that name (Open Space) from OST
facilitators from Europe or it was only the fact that “Open” is cool (and
“Closed” is awful) and they don’t even know what OST is? I would like to have
other opinions, especially from European people more close to the center of
Europe (somewhere in the line from Brussels to Berlin…) Regards and have a nice
week end Artur (From Portugal, in the Southwest of Europe - or is it in the
North of Africa? See the map bellow...) ---------------- Attachment 1
