Just an update after completed a 1000 km bicycle tour using OSMAnd+. All
went well, but I struggled with power consumption. In the end I had to
manually restrict battery consumption (screen resolution, brightness),
because I was never able to solve the problem (see below) of OSMAnd+ (and
any other gps-using apps) losing signal when the screen went off while in
Samsung/Android's mid-power-saving mode. It was a bit of a pain having to
manage power saving manually.
Samsung's battery saving mode has a (customizable) power saving mode. One
option is to turn on/off 'Background network usage: Allow apps that are
running in the background to use Wifi and mobile networks'. So, no mention
of GPS and I have location settings set to GPS only, but it still cuts out
background GPS signal.
