 I was just experimenting a bit more. What I said about imported GPX POIs 
appearing in My_Places>My_Favourites>"Favourites" applies when you click on 
the .gpx in a file manager and select OsmAnd as the app to open it with. If 
instead you import by going to My_Places>My_Favourites within Osmand, and 
choosing "+" in the tool bar at the top, then OsmAnd automatically creates 
a new favourites group/folder with the same name as the .gpx file, rather 
than using the "Favourites" folder.

As for icons, it's odd... When you manually create a new favourite (long 
press on the map, then select the star) you get a rich set of options for 
its appearance, but I can''t see how to apply that to an existing group 
either. The user interface is one of the things the devs are working on 
most at the moment, so I would guess that this is likely to improve in 
future releases.
