That's good to hear (the work on the UI).
Watch this space, I guess.

Great!

I was just experimenting a bit more. What I said about imported GPX POIs appearing in My_Places>My_Favourites>"Favourites" applies when you click on the .gpx in a file manager and select OsmAnd as the app to open it with. If instead you import by going to My_Places>My_Favourites within Osmand, and choosing "+" in the tool bar at the top, then OsmAnd automatically creates a new favourites group/folder with the same name as the .gpx file, rather than using the "Favourites" folder.

As for icons, it's odd... When you manually create a new favourite (long press on the map, then select the star) you get a rich set of options for its appearance, but I can''t see how to apply that to an existing group either. The user interface is one of the things the devs are working on most at the moment, so I would guess that this is likely to improve in future releases.

    That's great, thanks.
I have managed to load all the POIs into different categories and
    assigned different colours to each.
All that is missing is the ability to assign special icons to each
    category.
But I can live without that :-)

No, by "folders" I was talking about the named sub-folders you
can create within My_Places>My_Favourites within OsmAnd.

Would you like me to post some screenshots to illustrate what
        I was trying to say?

Thanks for the response.  That looks worth having a play
            with, which I'll do tomorrow.
            Very new to OsmAnd.
Am not sure when you are talking about "folders" are they
folders at Android file level - or folders within the
            OsmAnd app?

Faced with the same situation, I discovered a
work-around. When you import the GPX as favourites,
the new POIs go into the default folder called
"Favourites". If you make sure that prior to the
import this folder is empty (or even deleted) by
moving any contents to other named folders, then after
the import your new POIs are all in the "Favourites"
folder by them selves. Then you can simply rename
"Favourites" to whatever you like, change its
                appearance, etc.

You can do this repeatedly - if you made a second
import, OsmAnd would recreate "Favourites" for the new
POIs, and you can rename it again.

It's an easy system once you get into the habit of
                using "Favourites" solely for importing.

I hope that helps! I think I made it sound more
                complicated than it is...

If I load, say, 50 POI's into OsmAnd via a GPX
file, can I assign them to a new category with a
specified icon shape and colour in a single group
                    action?

If so, any pointers as to "how" would be appreciated.
