Found the culprit: the zoom works as intented if you are in the CYCLING PROFILE! For some reason, the bug I was describing affects only the Browse map/Base profile. Since that is the standard default profile, it may be worth fixing the bug. However, I managed to solve my issue by changing the default profile to cycling. Now I am very satisfied!
