Hello. I have a ThinkPad T61p with Intel HD Audio. Periodically, the saved mixer settings get lost. I am not able to reproduce this event reliably enough to be useful, but the result is that on the next boot the default mixer settings are used. This sets all channels to 90% and unmuted, including the internal mic and internal speakers. This results in an ear-piercing feedback that persists until I am able to log in and mute the int-mic channel. In addition, while loading OSS with a working mixer.save, there is a loud momentary beep, which I can really do without. I have spent a couple of hours going through the OSSv4 source code, and found a number of locations that seem like they should set the default mixer levels. I have set each of these in turn to 0, recompiled, run soundoff, removed /usr/lib/oss/etc/mixer.save, run soundon. So far none of them has actually affected the default mixer level. A screenshot with the mixer controls relevant to the feedback problem high-lighted is at http://omploader.org/vcGhj/2008-08-28-103014_1680x1050_scrot.png I would really like to solve the problem regarding the loss of mixer settings, but in the short term it would be a great relief to be able to set the default mixer levels.

Thanks,

Will Keaney
