Another thing I've noticed is that the rev. 502 commit causes crashes on some 
drivers:
oss_envy24 (already undone in rev. 524)
oss_audigyls (http://www.4front-tech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2982)
oss_via823x (not entire verified yet - 
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=20323 03:54:12 comment)

The attached diff reverts revision 502 on most drivers to prevent the crashes 
(It also uses O_EXCL in ossrecord to prevent accidental overwriting of files).
