Considering how long Islam and Christianity have been around, I think it's fair to compare ten years ago with now. I think you're conflating the Middle East, which is obviously an exporter or terrorism right now, with Islam. It's the same problem as if you asserted that Christianity was a religion of terrorism twenty years ago when Ireland was knee-deep in terrorism. It's just that the Middle East is mostly Muslim, much as Ireland is mostly Christian.
If Islam had spent most of its history supporting terrorism in most countries that were majority Muslim, then you might have a point, but it's just not true.
