Is it just me or did the concept of the news cycle only really become part of the public consciousness thanks to The West Wing?

I mean we all say "News Cycle" and we all use the term pretty much correctly, but when did we all learn it?

My Missus says that if it weren't for the West Wing, she wouldn't understand the US news.
