It is kinda obvious now that you say it that there is a basic foundation on which the country is built, and if you allow cracks to form, then those will only widen with time. The problem remains of how to handle the anti-gay-marriage people. I wonder what is their greatest fear? What is it that they are trying to protect? (If I can use that word, from their point of view.)
