I think this one fails dismally.

Then again, I don't think I've ever really been all that impressed
with the political cartoon genre. I find most to take a subtle joke
that could be funny and turn it into a hammer of unfunny obviousness.

The problem Obama has is that Sarah Palin was so amusing and such a fun target for political cartoonists that they've suddenly become more popular and read than before and now Barracuda is gone, everyone is remembering how crappy most of them are.

And yes, I didn't think the cartoon was funny, either. Still, I didn't think it particularly racist, just unfunny.

There are going to be racist jokes, and unfortunately some of them are going to be funny. The problem then arises is are we that advanced in ourselves that we can not find it offensive because we're above racism?

I'm once again reminded of a South Park episode that explains it better than I can.

Oh, and for those that are above South Park, I'll give you a literary quote from some still-not-dead guy instead. "The moment you declare a set of ideas to be immune from criticism, satire, derision, or contempt, freedom of thought becomes impossible." Salman Rushdie
