The stupidity part might be just biology. (I don't mean race & IQ). Apes can be very peaceful looking, but apparently, as soon as there is some competition, they'll go find the other apes' babies and smash their little heads on rocks. Here you have two peoples, separated by race, history, and religion. Plus one side is just richer than the other.
