At this point, we may be facing novel levels of collapse. It may be so new that none of the old philosophies matter anymore. Obama may be better if and only if he can force government to effect changes more rapidly and with greater flexibility than even seen before. Once it becomes clear that the massive bail out has failed, and we're all facing complete collapse, he'll have to rapidly get into place plan B.
