This is my idea - does the provision of grab bars, toilet safety frames, and
tub benches ( all items not reimbursed by Medicare) have any affect on the
future frequency of reported slips and falls in the bathroom. I work with
my home health clients to find funding for these pieces, and I believe they
would decrease future slips, falls, maybe even fractures in the elderly
discharged-from-home-health population. Another home health, but not really
OT question I have thought about is this. Here is my hypothesis: An elderly
person or couple who are visited in the home by any kind of outside care
provider, even a less trained one, for example a homemaker throught the
Medicaid waiver program. The person or couple with at least two visits per
week will have less hospital days and delay nursing home placement compared
to the person or couple with no ongoing visits.
Those are my ideas for waht its worth. -- Jody
