Hello Urvi:

First, this should be very interesting. Secondly, while you asked for my
input, I certainly hope others on this list with more knowledge and
expertise will also answer your question.

1) By treatment, I assume you mean OT treatment versus medical treatment. If
so, I would start by making an OT diagnosis. In other words, how has the
CVA impacted the client's occupational functioning both now and in the
future. Based on identified needs, I would continue assessment by looking at
functional components which may be contributing to the identified
performance deficits. Based on this and other information, I would develop
LTG/STG's and a treatment plan.

The above paragraph is to say that my treatment is based primarily on
occupational dysfunction rather than pathophysiology. So, my treatment for
the different types of stroke you mentioned might be similar or it might be
vastly different depending on the needs of the individual with the CVA.

Some common treatments I might use include:

     1. NDT/PNF type muscle reeducation
     2. Occupational retraining
     3. Vestibular and balance retraining
     4. Electrical stimulation
     5. Therapeutic use of self
     6. Enabling occupation

Does this help or does it create more confusion?

IF you are a student, I'm going to ask you to answer the 2 part of your
question.

Ron
