Hi all,
I was wondering if any therapists out there had worked much with people from
an indiginous background ("First People" I believe is also a correct term).

Here in Australia, much of the health provision is done by regional
Aboriginal Health Services and the predominant model used ,as I understand
it, of Community Development. There are many positive things happening
(there are some wonderful Woman's Councils working in innovative ways with
communities suffering terrible stresses).

I KNOW that the last thing I would want if I was a person from an indiginous
heritage would be a city born and bred health professional coming in and
telling me what I already know..but it just seems to me that SO many of the
problems faced by First Peoples all over the world are essentially
"occupational" , does anyone else think that culturally sensitive use of
occupation has a role to play? or am i being naive (again!)
David
