Hi Mary:

Do your search using the term "Assertive+Community+Treatment" or if you like you can add on the word "Model" immediately after "Treatment".  There is plenty of material on this model of mental health treatment.  It is also known as the ACT Team model.  However, I am hard put to tell you about the role of OTs in ACT teams, I know quite of few of my classmates upon graduation worked for ACT Teams.  But I did not know them to be doing anything different from any of the other clincians e.g. Social Workers, Nurses etc.  Excepting perhaps I am sure they provided OT consultative services to their colleagues from other disciplines.

As regards assessment strategies and tools within the ACT Model, are you referring to OT Assessment strategies and tools or are you talking about those specific to the ACT Model??  If you are referring to OT Ax. Strategies and tools, I think they would be the same as they are otherwise.  For example functional assessments like the Kohlman Evaluation of Living Skills (KELS), Allen's Cognitive Disabilities Model (ACL-90) etc.

Hope this helps a little,

Good luck,

Biraj

Hi, I am a mature student currently on work placement  within a community assertive outreach team in the UK. I am having difficulty finding any literature/evidence re: the role of OT's specifically within this area of work. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also if anyone has advice on assessment strategies /tools used within this setting. Thanks Mary
