in response to your post regarding Assertive Community Treatment - there aren't a lot of literature, at least that i know of, that pertains to OT's role in this model. i'm an OT working for a "modified" ACT Team. i say modified because our treatment approach is different that what is stated in the model. i just recently came from the ACT association conference in san antonio, texas and i learned thatthere aren't a lot of OTs working for ACT. if there are any,the role of OTs are limited to consultation and/for vocational training. where i work is part of a program development that started when i was still in school. we work with clients independent living skills, community mobility, and productive use of time with leisure activities, pre-vocational/vocational activities, etc.
about assessment, we use the ACL (allen cognitive levels), KELS (kohlman evaluation of living skills), and BaFPE (bay area functional performance evaluation. i also know that some OTs uses the ILS (independent living skills).
if you need more information about our frame of reference and why our approach may be different than traditional OT role in the ACT model, please feel free to email me either thru this listserve or personally.

Hi Mary:
Do your search using the term "Assertive+Community+Treatment" or if you like you can add on the word "Model" immediately after "Treatment". There is plenty of material on this model of mental health treatment. It is also known as the ACT Team model. However, I am hard put to tell you about the role of OTs in ACT teams, I know quite of few of my classmates upon graduation worked for ACT Teams. But I did not know them to be doing anything different from any of the other clincians e.g. Social Workers, Nurses etc. Excepting perhaps I am sure they provided OT consultative services to their colleagues from other disciplines.
As regards assessment strategies and tools within the ACT Model, are you referring to OT Assessment strategies and tools or are you talking about those specific to the ACT Model?? If you are referring to OT Ax. Strategies and tools, I think they would be the same as they are otherwise. For example functional assessments like the Kohlman Evaluation of Living Skills (KELS), Allen's Cognitive Disabilities Model (ACL-90) etc.
Hope this helps a little,
Good luck,
Biraj
