Actually the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy
at the University of Southern California (USA) is presently involved in
a "life style redesign" project related to obesity and weight loss. Dr.
Florence Clark is directing the project. You could likely contact her
through the OS/OT department at (323) 442-2850, email [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hope that helps and best of luck.

Subject: [OTlist] OT and Obesity/Bariatrics

I've just last week helped run and organise a workshop designed to "arm
for
work" the therapist-attendees in the area of problem solving their obese
clients' equipment needs. We were very fortunate to have an inspiring
speaker (OT Clinician) presenting on investigating the occupational
imbalance of people who present at the outpatient clinic she's based at.
She
is commencing studies towards her doctor of OT in this area. Robin
certainly
made a strong case for an unmet need for OT within obesity services; and
for
relevence of OT (ie our core values) for her clients.

Perhaps interestingly, in relation to the most recent "OT vs PT"
discussion
on this listserv, the Obesity Service where Robin works does not have a
PT
on staff...instead they use a "physical fitness eductor". But so far as
she
knows, Robin is the only OT working specifically in the area of Obesity.

Wondering if any of the US-based therapists who subscribe to this list
have
done work in this emerging practice area and if they would like to share
their experiences? I know and have read of a PT called Dionne based in
Georgia but surely there must be OT's given the population of the US and
also the comparably bad (to Australia where I live) rates of Obesity?
cheers,
David
