Hello Carol: When I worked in a SNF, I felt exactly the same productivity pressure that you mention. I told my employer that I could not do the job they wanted me to do in the time they gave me. I also told them that the only way that I could meet their productivity expectations was by either staying late every day or by being unethical (i.e. fraudulent billing). Since neither of these options was acceptable to me and the company refused to change it's demands or work environment (i.e. hire an aide) I was basically asked to leave or to be fired. I was fired!!
Remember, as OT's we have ethical obligations to our clients. And, we have legal obligations with regard to fraudulent billing. Please don't jeopardize your career or patients' therapy for the sake of a large medical company's profits!! You are in a tough situation and I am sorry for you and all other therapist that feel this pressure!!!
