Since no one has given Christine any answers, let me take a shot. (better
look out) :-)

Christine, when I worked in rehab a few years back, the whole bobath thing
was pretty popular. as it remember it, it was the concept of reducing
abnormal motor patterns for clients with CNS damage.

Many times, we would discourage a client from doing their daily tasks if
they were using 'improper' synergistic patterns. For example, the client
might be able to drink from a cup if they utilized flexor synergies, but
with the bobath approach, this was discouraged.

One day, i made a decision that as an OT, I should not be focusing on
movement patterns but on occupation. from that day forward, i never worried
about HOW someone dressed themselves or ate, so long as they could do it in
a way that was comfortable, satisfying and safe.

I don' know which is a better approach to rehab, i guess it depends on how
you measure your outcomes... but for me the bobath approach contributes very
little to OT.

Ron

P.S. (No big surprise in this post) :-)

P.S.S. Why don't more people on the list post answers?
