We had a class on Group dynamics. We study how to set up groups and run them. Each student had to develop a group, the criteria and activities then present one of the activities. I think group are a great idea. I don't get the chance to run many because of my setting and time constraints. Who would be running the groups? The group I did was death and dying. I called it something else but it dealt with people who were dying from an illness. I set it up to include activities for the person to come to peace with their life and loves as well as their illness. I think I set up one or two times that the families joined the group. I did have a family group also. This would be appropriate in the SNF center as more and more are having hospice come in as well as some ALF. I know one AlF near me offers it. Hospice is recognizing the roles we as therapist play in making the the quality of life up to the end the best it can be for the person. I have two hospice company's paying for ot services so the person can sit up when the family comes instead of being in bed. I can send you the information on the group I talked about if you want just e-mail me back at [EMAIL PROTECTED] with your address. Also There are two really good books out there to help I can found them and give you the names if you like.
