Speaking as a *former* lurker.. I often read but didn't post because I didn't know enough about most of the topics to put in my two cents worth, but I learned a lot by reading and following threads. When I finally started posting, it was with questions rather than answers. Sad to say, I rarely got responses to my questions, and noticed many others didn't either... but I stuck it out and eventually there were postings that I *could* contribute to or at least voice an opinion about. Hopefully that will happen for more of the lurkers and they will feel comfortable about joining in. :)

Speaking of responses... now that there are triple the amount of members... maybe some of you could peek in the archives at the thread about supervisory fees and respond to it? They are pressing me for an answer!!! Thanks!

Hey Ron,

Congrats on the growth of the list! Now if only you can somehow get all of these people to participate. I count only 15 members that have posted to the list to this date. I hate to be so negative, but 15% participation is pretty poor. It always surprises me that so many people feel it is a good idea to join a list like this, however they don't feel it is a good idea to post to the same. Maybe some of the lurkers (the definition of a lurker is someone that views the discussion but does not participate in the same) could explain the reluctance to participate. I suppose though, that if one is a lurker, you may not be predisposed to answering such a question. I struggle with why this type of format doesn't work with OT. I have seen other lists, for other disciplines, which flourish (one in particular that is geared toward PTs, but focuses on management issues averages between 10 to 20 posts per day). Believe me, I'm not attempting to hurt feelings or overtly criticize anyone. I'm just interested in continuation of what I feel is a much needed medium for dialogue between OT professionals.

Where do we go from here?

Jimmie

Subject: [BULK] [OTlist] Membership Update
Importance: Low

Hello:

I was going to wait on this message, but I am an impatient soul.

Toady, we reached our 99th member!

This is phenomenal growth, considering that the OTlist started a couple
of weeks ago with just 30-some members.

So far, the safety features of the list are working perfect! Of course
as the list grows, so will our vulnerability to virus attacks.

As usual, I want to encourage everyone to "advertise" the list. You can
direct people to www.otnow.com for the most up to date information.

Also, don't forget about the OTboard at www.otnow.com/otbb There are
still messages being posted their.

Finally, remember that when you post or reply to a message on the
OTlist, it is going to all readers AND (this is a big AND), it is posted
on the Mail-Archive for ANYONE to read! If you haven't visited the
Mail-Archive, take a minute to do so. It's a great resource!!

That's it for now!!

Thanks,

Ron
