I understand that the CAPS is not a license but the "C" does stand for
Certified, right? What does the CAPS training certify a person to do?
Is it simply to make recommendations on home remods?

Confused, but interested!!

BP> The CAPS isn't a license to practice anything and it isn't required by any
BP> funding organization that I'm aware of. I see it is more an indicator of a
BP> person's interest in aging in place and an attempt to provide a way for
BP> people from different professions and industries to have a common body of
BP> knowledge. I have recommended the courses for OT who are interested in home
BP> mods but don't have much building experience and for contractors who don't
BP> have much understanding of developmental process and aging. You can't
BP> predict what people take from the class, but the courses I took and the set
BP> of courses I monitored for someone else, stressed team work among
BP> professionals. If you are interested in how the National Association of
BP> Home Builders presents it you can check it out on www.NAHB.com I rely on
BP> my Nebraska and Iowa OT license for things like prof liability for services
BP> I provide related to residential accessibility design. Neither state
BP> requires a physician's referral to practice OT and neither state's licensure
BP> law can be interpreted to read that only an OT can provide evaluation and
BP> suggestions for home modifications. The CAPS designation has been useful
BP> for marketing within the building industry. I work in a private pay world
BP> and marketing is very important.
