I would like to respond to the e-mails below. I defense of Ron, I don't think he was unfair at all- he was simply bringing up a topic, that was brought up in a public domain anyway, for discussion.
What about the first e-mail- is it the "UE" or the "function" part that is bothersome? I struggle with the notions that OT's and PT's should cut a body in half and each only serve one. I was in school less than 100 years ago, but more than 20. At that time, the OT's and PT's shared the same classes in anatomy and physiology, although emphasis in modalities was higher for that of PT's. Still, I know many PT's that have specialized in hand therapy and were much better at splints than I. Who would serve the patient better? As for the "function" part, what does this mean to the author? If this at the impairment level, the disability level or participation/engagement in occupation level? I suppose with all the conflict in the world, I just wish our two professions would work as well as together as our two departments in my own facility. It's just a shame that we can't seem to work this out- heaven knows there is plenty for all of us to do....
