David,

It's interesting that you say:

"Let's be truthful.....PTs have the knowledge and training
to work on impairments and functional movements" and  "OTs have perhaps the
same (depending on the rigor of the program they attended)"

In my experience, PT's do have the knowledge of movement impairments but not
necessarily thorough knowledge of functional movement (depending on the rigor
of their studies.....as you suggested with OT's) I have often had PT
counterparts that express their desire to D/C a patient when that very day I
was cueing the same patient not to walk around the front of his walker in order
to pick up trash on the floor, cueing the patient to keep his foot inside the
walker instead of out to the side during functional mobility both in the halls
and in a complex environment. More than one PT has responded by saying that
they didn't have the patient involved in a task during ambulation and therefore
did not realize these functional impairments. I have also documented many LOB
with patients while they reached in the closet to get clothes etc while the PT
has no documentation of this functional movement impairment.

Don't get me wrong, I have worked and do work with great PT's but, depending on
their education and/or understanding of true functional movements, the
"truthfulness" of PT's having knowledge in functional movement is not always
the case. As an OT, I do feel that it is my domain to have a very thorough
knowledge of functional movement impairments as this was the primary emphasis
of OT education. Movement impairments, as I see it, are primarily the PT's
domain.

I appreciate this open discussion and do have great respect for OT, PT and SLP
in their respective fields.
