Hi Becky,

I recertified to get back into OT in 2005. I knew I
wanted to get back into psychiatry and did my four
month internship with the largest psychiatric hospital
in Toronto in four different departments. I enjoyed
all four but realised that I could not work with first
episode client as I have a son who was 19 at the time
and the young men I met just reminded me of my son
which scared the hell out of me. No distance possible
for me in that situation.

But I spent another month with a modified ACT team and
realised that I just loved working in that kind of
situation and with that clientele. I loved being out
seeing clients in their homes, and working with a very
close team. I also realised that I was not suited to
sitting in an office and having clients come to see
me.

So, when I got a job with an ACT team in June of 2005,
I could not believe my luck. It has turned out to be
the best job I have ever had and I love it.

So yes, I was very positively influenced by my
placement.

Good luck with your career, and may you also land a
job you love.

Regards,

Aine Suttle. Toronto
