Thanks Beth. I am opening the lecture with a case study. In fact here
is the text from the first 5 slides:

Martha: A Case Study

History:
        90 y/o female
        s/p CVA (approximately 10 years) with mild residual affects
        Generalized weakness
        Decreased endurance
        Diffuse pattern of extremity pain
        HTTN
        Severe anxiety
Evaluation:
        Decreased strength in bi-lateral LE
        Pain in right LE, secondary to “injury” while standing from toilet
        Decreased endurance
        Dependent for most ADL’s.
        Requires mod – max assist with transfers
        Non-ambulatory
Prior Level of Function:
        Previously ambulated with RW, short distances
        Transferred independently

2 ================================================

Martha’s Goals:

        1. Donn/doff underwear safely and independently

        2. Safely ambulate to/from bathroom with a RW

        3. Independently and safely bathe self using adaptive equipment

3 ================================================

Martha’s Treatment
        Starting from day 1, the patient began working on standing from
bedside.
        9/1/08, standing with a RW for 13 secs and 32 secs
        9/3/08, standing for 25 secs
        9/5/08, standing 35 secs, 38 secs and after much prompting, over 2
minutes.

4 ================================================

Treatment, continued
        9/15/08, two steps inside her RW
        9/19/08, 4 steps inside her walker
        9/22/08, 5-7 steps advancing walker with mod assist
        9/24/08, ambulated 25 feet and min A. to advance walker

5 ================================================

Treatment, continues
        9/29/08 Independently doffed underwear (Goal #1)
        Ambulated with RW to toilet.
        First time in over 3 months patient has used “regular” toilet (Goal #2)
        10/10, sat on tub transfer bench.
        3 months since doing this. (Goal #3)

================================================

I am following up the case with the theory behind why and how both the
patient identified and progressed to her goals. This is the case
study that I posted earlier today.

The majority of the presentation is really definitions and
values/beliefs about occupation, occupational performance and
patient-centered treatment.

I'm a little concerned that it's too esoteric, but students MUST have
knowledge before they can apply that knowledge, right????

Again, I'm hoping to "plant a seed" in student's minds that will later
develop.

e> Ron,
e> Remember to have time to do an exercise regarding the topic, make in take,
e> how do you pick activities relating to occupation and occupational
e> performance in different settings. Relate it to doing... Less talk more
