Hi Nils,
I understand that but if things don't get deleted then the admin
interface for users, customers etc becomes very messy. Deleting would be
a good option. Is this possible?

The OTRS philosophy is to not ever delete anything. You can set  
customers to be no longer valid though. Just login as a user that can  
access the Admin section and there you can change your agents, users,
