I know the LC 475 is great! Ours used to be in our office, and has 20mb Ram.
It runs great (or did) using all types of software. We used them at school
too (I'm a primary teacher) and they were absolutely indestructible and easy
for teachers to set up. Not like these wretched PC's. My favourite thing
about the macs is the way you can just plug them all in together and have an
instant network! That was great for staff development! If I could only find
an affordable CD drive for it, it would be on a par with my kids' old PC.

> Don't knock the '040 machines - or apologise for having one. When our
school got a LC475 back in 1993/94 (I think) it was the fastest machine (8Mb
RAM, 250 Mb RAM). They still run rings around some PPC machines (eg 5260)
and thats running OS 8.1 on both. They feel fast, act fast and (running
software appropriate for the machine - Word Perfect springs to mind) they
are fast. My favorite machines after the iMac, and with years of useful life
left in them coz they are so reliable. Oh and they are really nice to use.
Meanwhile those 486's from the same period really are nearing the end of
their useful lives, not so much due to processor/system inadequacies, but
simply because they are wearing out - hard drives/floppy drives and system
board failures. Sad, but thats the way it is.
