Hi, I've been busy opening up old Performa 580CDs to swap in some 6200/75 motherboards I picked up (I know the 6200 was a road apple but I still think it's a boost compared to the old 33MHz 68LC040 board)

Anyway I noticed one of my 580s had a different CPU in it, marked as an XC68LC040FE33B 66 / 33 MHz. I found this on Google, referring to this CPU:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg05876.html

so I know it is just a later version of the same basic CPU. However I had a thought about the marking that says "66 / 33 MHz" - I assume this means that the later revision of the chip runs at either of these speeds. I don't suppose anyone knows if there is a system I can put this CPU into that will run it at the full 66 MHz? In the Performa it definitely only runs at 33. These CPUs are supposed to be tricky to remove from their sockets so I don't want to try it out in other machines on the offchance it will work, unless someone out there has definite knowledge on the matter?

Anyway I am working on the premise that 040 machines can still be useful (at least for school work) but the full 68040 (rather than the LC version) seems to be very scarce, so if I can get this one working at double speed, that will go a long way towards making up for the lack of the FPU. However I expect I'll be told that while the CPU can theoretically run at 66 MHz, the rest of the board will not support it :-(

LEM says that the LC630 can be clock chipped to 40 MHz but the link is broken; anyway 40 isn't 66 is it?

I've probably answered my own question - but if you think I'm wrong, please let me know & I'll give it a shot (assuming I can pry the CPU loose)
