Right, I have loaded OpenWrt (backfire, 2.6 kernel) onto my WRT54G and modded it as per http://www.rwhitby.net/projects/wrt54gs to provide serial ports and the DS9097U-009 has arrived. I have checked in my PC (via a USB to Serial adaptor) that the DS9097 works.
When I do owfs --errorlevel=3 -d /dev/ttyS1 -m /root/1wire I see CONNECT: owfs.c:main(123) fuse mount point: /root/1wire CONNECT: ow_avahi_link.c:OW_Load_avahi_library(72) No Avahi support. Library libavahi-client couldn't be loaded CONNECT: ow_dnssd.c:OW_Load_dnssd_library(136) Zeroconf/Bonjour is disabled since dnssd library isn't found CALL: ow_parsename.c:FS_ParsedName_anywhere(90) path=[] CONNECT: ow_com_read.c:COM_read(70) Timeout error (read) serial port: /dev/ttyS1 CONNECT: ow_com_read.c:COM_read(70) Timeout error (read) serial port: /dev/ttyS1 ... I don't know whether the first messages indicate a problem but it appears that I am not able to talk to the DS9097. The console serial port is working ok but I am not sure how to check whether there may be a problem with the second port which is the one the adaptor is plugged into. One issue I am unsure about is what do do with DTR and RTS (these are not present on the serial ports). Looking at the data sheets for the adaptor I have deduced that these are used to power the adaptor so have connected a -6 volt supply to RTS and left DTR open. Does anyone know whether that should be ok? Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go now? I have very limited electronic facilities (no scope, only a DVM).
