it look like your serial adapter is not being recognized. The port can be
opened, and perhaps some of the responses are valid, but the entire
initialization sequence fails. Is there anything unusual about the hardware?
Some embedded boards need tweeking of the serial parameters.
Can I suggest trying digitemp as a corroborating test of the serial adapter?
