I have had no problems using Ubuntu (native, not in VMWare), but cannot comment on other ditros. Coincidentally I am looking into using VirtualBox on Win 7 64 bit running Ubuntu guest with owfs so will be interested to hear how you get on. Is there a reason you are using VMWare rather than VBox?
