For high throughput the DS9490 is faster than the others. It automates more
of the search.
(I suspect that the communication via serial or i2c or USB is the slowest
part and the USB
commands for search and reading of the DS9490 require fewer back and forth
coordination
than the other chips).

The DS2480 designs work well, although the usb->serial chip and it's
support in the linux
kernel vary. iButtonLink's design is excellent and can be used either in
DS2480 emulation
or using their native ascii protocol which probably is faster. (OWFS can
use either one, it
depends on how they are called on the command line).
Finally, don't neglect the ethernet designs like the OW-SERVER-NET ($99) or
LinkHub-E that have
several isolated lines and can be separated from your computer over the
network.
