I have used pop3 with windows server 2003.

It was extremely simple to set up if a bit limited.

I used a commercial product prior to that (too long ago to remember what)

Shame its been dropped in 2008.

A quick Google found http://www.hmailserver.com/index.php?page=welcome

Its free plus source code.

Help states this

hMailServer is now officially tested with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

Had a look at the Forums and it looks like its .NET based.

I have not tried 2010 but 2008 works. 2005 does not. Quickest bet is try.

Downloaded some old source to find its written in C++.

I am not sure how active the project is.

There are probably other offerings around.

So we're looking for options (the switchover has now been postponed a

least look into the "state of the art" VB.NET freeware POP3 Servers,
hoping one would already integrate with the Microsoft SMTP Service.

However I'm having trouble finding any .NET source code for POP3 servers:

I have seen http://sourceforge.net/projects/cses/ but have yet to look at it.

Are there any VB.NET POP3 Servers?

Why don't just aggregate the pop3 addresses in one place on Google Apps and pop
the mail from there?

i.e. set up 1 box with x aliases and enable pop access?
