I don't know if this will be adequate for you, but for a firewall I use
OpenDNS - it's free and will block any categories that you select. Once
you've set it up, all you need to do is to set up the DNS to point to their
ip addresses. You can select the level of security you want, from None,
Low, Moderate, High and Custom settings.

For example, the High will "Protects against all adult-related sites,
illegal activity, social networking sites, video sharing sites, and general
time-wasters", Moderate will "Protects against all adult-related sites and
illegal activity", Low will "Protect against Pornography" etc

They also have the ability to allow single sites or block single sites in
case there's something that you don't agree with. I put a few of the
advertising company urls in there and it does a good job of blocking some
dodgy looking ads.
