I have also been trying to figure out how to send/share reports to the wider
organisation without the additional costs of Pro Licences.

In my research, I came across this article.

https://exceleratorbi.com.au/affordable-power-bi-premium-for-small-business/

Under option 1 they talk about Automate report delivery using Excel.

I have not had the time to set this up or try it myself.

Anyone else found a similar hack?

Option 1: Automate Report Delivery using Excel

This is not actually super hard to do. It takes a bit of time to set up and a
bit of equipment, but believe me, it will cost you a lot less than $60,000 per
year to set up and operate. Basically what you can do is install Excel on a
machine (with a licence) and then automate the process of refreshing an Analyze
in Excel workbook, and then automatically email it to your staff when needed.
This can be done in a few ways including using VBA.

Subject: Re: [OT] Power BI publishing

Sharing Power BI reports directly via a file share or sharepoint portal is
free, but all users need Power Bi installed, and you miss out on a lot of
functionality.

Publishing to the Power BI portal is the preferred mode for sharing within an
organization. Published reports can be setup to automatically update their data
on a schedule, don't require any desktop installation footprint and there is
some functionality that only exists on the portal (like dashboards, and
insights).

(Note that if you do want the reports to refresh themselves on a schedule, and
the data is on-prem, you will have to look into the Power BI Data Connector too)

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had experience with publishing power bi reports
for more general consumption within an organisation?

I'm trying to figure out if the recipients need to have power bi installed or
not, whether it's any different in Azure, and what licences are needed.

Kind regards,

Tony
