Hello Joanne, I am the author of an article published in the UK midwifery journal called "The Practising Midwife" in April this year titled "The Thrid Stage Maze - Which practice pathway for optimum outcomes?"  It examines active management as well as physiological third stage and evidence/research based recommendations.  I wrote it initially as my final paper for my mid. course in 1999, then rehashed it for publication.  I presented it at the recent Australian College of Midwives Biennial Conference in Brisbane and it was very well received, with a lot of interest in the benefits of physiological third stage.  I had some good photo's for the poster which are not in the article.  The reference is:
Wattis, L.J.  The third stage maze: Which practice pathway for optimum outcome?. Practising Midwife Vol.4, No4, April 2001.  If you'd like to send me your mailing address I could post you a copy, and scan some photo's for you as well if you like.  Best wishes with your assignment.   Although there's a bit of hysteria about it (especially the early/late cord clamping issue)  it's a fascinating subject once you get into it.  Cheers, Lois Wattis, RM
