<< I have a client who is G4P3 at 25 weeks who is experiencing severe leg cramps during the night. They are totally relieved by hands and knees (she finds it difficult to sleep in this position) and they are constantly waking her up. Any suggestions. Andrea Quanchi >> Hi Andrea and all, I too suffered with leg cramps in my third pregnancy. I found a warm bath before going to bed helped alot with cramping and a hot water bottle helped when I didn't feel like getting in the bath. Keeping my legs warm seemed to be the key. The fact that this woman's cramps can be relieved by 'hands and knees' may suggest a circulatory thing, so exercise to help with circulation in the legs may also help. Another useful 'remedy' to aid with circulation is the flexing of the feet (toes) towards the knees. A few of these before bed, and sleeping with pillows between her legs may help. Leg cramps can also be caused by too little calcium in the diet. So reviewing the woman's diet may be of assistance also.
