The midwife is responible for her midwifery care, the hospital policy or
protocol has to be based on research evidence surley so I would enquire as
to the basis of this ie prevention of retention of urine etc.then identify
the focus of the midwifrey postnatal care map which incorporates bladder
care and adjust the policy to for instance if the uterus is slow to in
volute if the bladder is palpable etc then the policy is to measure urine
still dumb and from the dark ages but a start to get rid of policy . Also a
letter from midwives to Oand G comittee as to why this policy should
continue would be very revealing I think the core group would agree there is
no need. If measuring the urine really impinges on time ask the women to do
it and record they can refuse but usually are happy to help and its much
better than stale specimens hanging around to be measured .jan
