Dear listers,
I came across a tired, upset, uptight etc etc mum on ND
about 3weeks ago.She was day 4 and unable to attach her baby to the breast
at all without assistance. The baby had spent his first 2 days in special
care and was attached for her!! She was definately going home in the morning
whether breast or bottle feeding.I couldn't see any reason why he couldn't
attach,so tried talking her through it, explaining it all again etc.By about
0200 she was ready to give up.Although her nipples were fine, I suggested a
nipple shield, in desperation. She attached him totally independantly
immediately and she cried and I breathed a sigh of relief.I had the pleasure
of seeing her again, for her first child health clinic visit last Friday and
he had gained 330gms in 10 days, still only attaching with a shield. No
formula given but it came very close.I felt like I'd won a lottery.
