Hi Anne,
I had a family at a reunion yesterday from prenatal classes here in the USA that did store cord blood. Apparently they researched the various companies - looking at cost etc - and when they picked one they bought the 'kit' for getting the blood. The midwife who attended their birth (yes, they actually had one!) then collected with blood with the kit that came with very clear instructions. The biggest hassle was getting a courier at 2am to come collect the stuff because it has to go into storage within a narrow timeframe. They are paying I think $300US a year to store it and when the baby turns 18 she gets 'custody' of the stored blood and can decide to continue storing it or not.
I'm sure if your client did a web search she could track down a company that is doing this, although I'm not sure if there is one in Australia. Maybe she could contact the US companies and ask them if they know

Subject: [ozmidwifery] Cord Blood Storage

I have a client living in North-west Victoria who is keen to keep and store her baby's cord blood for use at a later date if required.  Has anyone had any experience of this and can you give me a contact?

Thanks

Anne
