Hi Cheryl. from personal experience I would say bubs generally "bite" after they have had a bit of a feed - ie not when they are really hungry and needing to uck - so I would remove them gently if they bit and create a diversion for a little while - try not to react with a great big "ouch" as it can become a bit of a game -perhaps some hard / cool things to chew on to relieve the gums, then try again at the breast. One of mine did seem to chomp down with top teeth and very painful on the areola as he fell asleep, so it was a matter of staying alert and holding him on properly, or removing him. Mostly, they dont bite after the first few front teeth especially if their "chomping" needs are met with alternatives.
An LC will be better to advise with breast soreness, but it may be worth bearing in mind that the major cause of mastitis is over tiredness and oversocialising etc. Be gentle on yourself! (Im trying to tell myself this today! - even though mastitis is not a risk anymore) Thanks for your lovely feedback on "Extending the Breast".
