I gave birth in the family bed too... funny really as I have midwifed
many women in water and on land in many different positions but this is
what suited me at the time.. it was wonderful to watch him uncurl from
within my body... he just turned 8 and the memory of his birth still
brings such swelling of the heart.

I have had a homebirth (& labour) on the bed,some sitting cross elgged
on
the floor!
Effective labour  is about what the woman needs and some are fine on a
bed
or other hard surface though not common when encouraged and comfortable
to
do what they want!!
