Could the constrictions around the neck have cut off blood supply to the brain?  Maybe 
the wording of the story was bad.  I told you I was new at this :)  I would be 
suprised if the counsellor made it up, but stranger things have happened!  I 
appreciate the feedback though - I never even thought of the choking/breathing 
perspective.
