Also, the SP1 installation guide ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=FF12844F-398C-4FE9-8B0D-9E84181D9923&displaylang=en ) states that the client (Visual Studio) needs to be updated to SP1 before any server components (build agent):
"In deployments where the application tier and a client tier component are installed on the same computer, you must install SP1 for Visual Studio 2008 before you install SP1 for Team Foundation Server. Otherwise, you will not be able to install SP1 for Team Foundation Server." At any rate, both controller and agents MUST have the same service pack installed. If one is a vanilla install and another has a service pack installed, you will see this error. Remember, the controller packages the "test" assemblies and sends to the agents for execution. When packaging, I imagine some version information is included, and any SP affects this version number, hence a serialisation and deserialisation error occurs (although the error could be a lot more helpful). I'm a little confused though. Isn't the controller the TFS server that invokes the agent (client build machine) to build something. We don't have TFS SP1 on the server, but I have installed VSTS SP1 on the agent. The installation order was: VSTS Team Explorer Team Build 2008 VSTS SP1 I tried reinstalling Team Build 2008 to fix up any version issues that SP1 have brought in but it still hasn't worked. Should I have not installed VSTS SP1 in the first place? TF224003: An exception occurred on the build computer [MachineName]: Could not load type 'Microsoft.TeamFoundation.CommonSqlError' from assembly 'Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Common, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' due to value type mismatch.. The machine is XP Pro with all available updates. I have installed VSTS with SP1, the build agent setup and everything else I can think of that are requirements to get a build running. The type requested exists in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies. The fusion log viewer doesn't log any errors for this binding and the event log doesn't indicate any issues. I have given the build account administrative rights on the build machine and added C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies to the PATH environment variable and still no joy. Any ideas?
