  Also check you portal_error.log.  I found a lot cluefulness there when I had 
issues with the captive portal pages dying.  It was universally my fault, of 
course :^).

The guest_self_reg and guest_modes are no longer used. You can remove them, The 
self-registration is automatically activated when one of the authentication 
sources provides self-registration (SMS, email, or sponsor).

Do you have any error in the packetfence.log file when you hit the 
self-registration page?
