I am not sure if that includes me or not. I added some features
 (others would call them bugs) to that plugin.

In general I'd prefer keeping it as a separate plugin but having
it included in the binary distributions and the downstream distributions.
Also making the plugin API support any level of integration you would
like to have for this plugin.

What about using the plugin to drive the improvement in the plugin API?

I would even think we can try to imitate what Ubuntu (or even Debian?)
does on the command line, recognizing when you are trying to run something
that is not yet installed and telling you how to install it.

With that said I am not very much against moving it into core
so if there was a voting I'd stay neutral.
