In the Amateur Radio community, we have an entire system based on using
packet radio to send GPS data to a computer for display. It is called
the Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS). Applications have been
written for DOS, Windows, Macintosh, and recently, APRS for the Palm
Pilot has become available. Parsing of NMEA GPS data from all the
various GPS devices has been covered in the APRS Special Interest Group.
The "home" of APRS is the Tucson Amateur Packet Radio Corp., or TAPR:

>From here you can access most any information you want on APRS and GPS,
including subscribing to the APRS SIG listserv:

>From here you can search the listserv archives:

Other main APRS sites include:

Hope this helps!

Subject: GPS and Palm

I am sure this issue has come up and been well covered, so feel free to
direct any replies to my email rather than the list.

Can anyone give me information on integrating one of the available GPS
receivers (data) into a custom app?

Thanks

Bill
